Vaxflagy is a combined antibacterials containing amoxicillin and metronidazole.
Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic and its structure contains the beta-lactam ring
and thiazolidine ring common to all penicillins. It prevents the bacterial cell wall
from forming by interfering with the final stage of peptidoglycan synthesis. It
inhibits the activity of transpeptidase enzymes which catalyse cross linkage of the
glycopeptides polymer units that form the cell wall.It exerts a bactericidal action but
causes lysis of growing cells only. It can be referred to as a time dependent
antibiotic. It is active against some Gram negative bacteria and most Gram positive
bacteria as Penicillin sensitive pasteurella spp., Proteus spp., Streptococcus spp.,
E.coli and Gram positive cocci. Metronidazole is a concentration dependent
bactericidal agent against susceptible bacteria. Its exact mechanism of action is taken
up by anaerobic organisms where it is reduced to an unidentified polar compound. It
is believed that this compound is responsible for the drug’s antimicrobial activity by
disrupting DNA and nucleic acid synthesis in the bacteria. It has activity against
most obligate anaerobes including Bacteroides spp. (including B. fragilis),
Fusobacterium veillonella, Clostridium spp., Peptococcus spp.and Peptostreptococcus
spp. Actinomyces is frequently resistant to metronidazole. Some isolates of C.difficile
may be resistant. Metronidazole is is also trichomonacidal and amebicidal in action and
acts as a direct amebicide. It has therapeutic activity against Entamoeba histolytica,
Trichomonas spp., Giardia spp. and Balantidium coli. It acts primarily against the
trophozoite forms of Entamoeba rather than encysted forms.
For the treatment of:
positive cocci.
Proteus spp. and Gram-positive cocci.
Route of administration: Taken orally via drinking water
For whole product: 1 gm of product / 10 kg b.wt . twice daily for a minimum of 5 consecutive days . the majority of routine cases respond after between 5 and 7 days of therapy . if no improvement is observed after 5- 7 days, the diagnosis should be re-assessed . in chronic or refractory cases .a longer course of therapy may be required.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place, used immediately after opening and reconstitution
